Our Story
With approximately 180 students, St. Joseph’s is a close-knit community where every child is known, valued, and supported. We are committed to delivering high-impact, evidence-based teaching, grounded in the Science of Learning and the principles of effective instruction. Our teachers work collaboratively to meet each student at their point of need, building strong foundations that support growth and confidence in learning.
At St. Joseph’s, education is about more than academic success. We offer a rich and balanced learning experience that prioritises students’ social, emotional, academic, and spiritual wellbeing. By nurturing every aspect of a child’s development, we help them discover a deep sense of purpose and the skills they need to flourish in school and beyond.
Our staff are not only educators—they are mentors, role models, and advocates. Through their care and dedication, they help students grow in character as well as knowledge. They model empathy, respect, and responsibility, creating learning environments where children feel safe, supported, and inspired to be their best selves.
We recognise that students flourish in a community where they are known and belong. That’s why relationships lie at the heart of all we do. Our school culture is one of trust, warmth, and collaboration—where families, staff, and students work together to create a vibrant and inclusive environment.
Our educators are committed to ongoing professional growth, continually strengthening their teaching practice to provide engaging, purposeful learning. With high expectations and high support, we ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
Values
‘We instill the Gospel Values, in the tradition of the Catholic Church, as we develop caring and confident learners, equipped to be participants in a contemporary world.’ At St Joseph’s Primary School we seek to create a learning environment which provides a strong, progressive education in the Catholic tradition, preparing students to successfully navigate and contribute to the ongoing and emerging needs of our world. Inspired by rich heritages of the Brigidine Sisters and our patron saint St Joseph and immersed in Gospel values, we seek to shape students of Strength and Kindliness who have courage and are generous of heart.
Mission
A safe, nurturing environment that develops each individual student spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically and academically A welcoming and inclusive learning community that recognises and respects each individual’s unique qualities and heritage Opportunities to live out our faith through action An inclusive curriculum using innovative teaching strategies Developmental learning programs to challenge and actively involve all students Positive partnerships between school, home and Parish.
Our Humble Beginnings
Operating in a modest weatherboard building, St. Joseph’s Primary School began its journey in 1889 with humble beginnings. Initially guided by dedicated lay teachers, the school transitioned in 1896 under the nurturing leadership of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart. In 1917, the current main building was constructed, marking a significant milestone as the Brigidine Sisters took on leadership, transforming the school into an institution that would continue to grow.
Over time, St. Joseph’s has evolved while staying true to its Catholic heritage, fostering academic excellence, community spirit, and spiritual growth. Today, our co-educational environment continues to inspire and provide a nurturing, values-based education that encourages personal development, learning, and a strong sense of community.
