Buddy Program

Fostering Friendships and Building Connections

At St. Joseph’s, our Buddy Program plays a vital role in supporting the social and emotional development of our students. Each year, our new Prep students are paired with a Year 5 or 6 buddy to help them transition smoothly into school life. These buddies provide friendship, guidance, and a welcoming presence, ensuring that Prep students feel safe, supported, and connected from the very first day.

Throughout the year, the buddy relationship continues to strengthen as both students participate in structured activities that encourage teamwork, trust, and respect. The program helps our younger students become familiar with school routines, develop confidence in social situations, and build a sense of belonging within the wider school community. In turn, our older students grow in responsibility, empathy, and leadership skills, as they take on a mentoring role and create lasting connections with their younger peers.
